QUILTING TIPS
IDEAL BINDING CREATIONS! Make strip ends overlap the exact measurement of your cut binding. Trim to that number, e.g. 2 1/2". Place strips right sides together at a right angle and stitch diagonally from top strip corner to bottom strip corner. Trim seams to 1/4" and press open. Your binding finishing seam is perfect and indistinguishable from your other bias seamed joints
TIPS CONINUED:
SQUARING YOUR FINISHED QUILT. Measure top to bottom left, right and center. Average these 3 numbers (L-70, C-72, Rt-71, average is 71). Cut left and right borders to this measurement and apply borders pinning at top, bottom and center. Ease as needed. Repeat process of measuring across quilt after sides and accompanying borders are attached for perfect top and bottom borders. This process automatically creates a squared quilt by having top, bottom and both side borders matching sizes.

ELDER'S ADVICE: It is indeed wise and healthy to look continually toward bettering our attitudes and lives. Our January ritual of resolutions makes a lot of sense. So I'm sharing some things I've learned along the way of 90 years as suggestions and ideas: Our job is to be happy. Live in the present; you will realize freedom. Forgiveness is the key to happiness. We always have a choice between peace and fear. Make your own rules, forgetting "ought" and "should". Ask for spiritual help; it's always available. Establish boundaries; learn to say "no". Guilt is an option. Be creative, have fun, embrace life. Be authentic; the world wants you to be yourself. Listen to your inner voice, your intuition. Live in joy, even though you have the facts. make it a good year, the best yet. --Mary Lou Cook, Santa Fe, NM ADD SPARKLE To add sparkle to your quilt, consider the color on a color wheel in triangular relationship to your dominant and secondary colors. Remember, shades of yellow create warmth, shades of red create spark, shades of blue create tranquility, shades of green, create calm.
